Nayagarh: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will flag off the first regular passenger train on the newly constructed track between Bolagarh Road and Nayagarh section of the Khurda Road-Bolangir railway line project on June 19, sources from Ministry of Railways said.
Prabhu will also inaugurate the public halt at Bolagarh through video conference.
"It is a matter of great happiness and like a dream come true for people of Nayagarh who have been anxiously waiting for long to experience train travel. Since the government had also lived up to its promise to introduce the train service before the ensuing Rath Yatra so people have double reasons to rejoice" Kamalakant Nayak, a local said.
Earlier on May 11, a trial run of an engine had been conducted on this 12 kilometre railway route out of the 289-km-long railway line project. Later, a speed trial of a passenger train was also conducted from Nayagarh to Bolagarh on June 6 to check if the section was fit for carriage of passenger traffic.
It is pertinent to note that the 54.5-km railway track between Khurda Road and Bolagarh has already been commissioned and two pairs of trains are plying along the line.
