Bhubaneswar: Following CBSE's decision to make Aadhaar mandatory for students while registering for Class 9 and 11 board examinations from the current 2017-18 academic year, parents association have protested the move.
Hundreds of parents and members of the association today staged a protest in front of the board’s regional office in Bhubaneswar and apprised the regional manager to repeal the decision through a memorandum.

Since students furnish all kinds of documents during the admission process, there is no need to quote Aadhaar. Alleging that there are no such norms mentioned in the Supreme Court guidelines, the parents’ body urged the board to withdraw the decision.
CBSE, in a circular released on September 26, had said that students in all the CBSE-affiliated schools should provide their Aadhaar number while registering for their Class 9 and 11 board examinations.

The board notified all the CBSE-affiliated schools to register their students on its official website by submitting the required documents and subject-related details.
It further added that students without Aadhaar number can submit the Aadhaar enrolment number during registration. Residents of Indian states where Aadhaar enrolment is yet to be done may provide bank details in lieu of Aadhaar number.
