Koraput: A circular issued by Koraput Collector Jaya Kumar V asking visitors to adhere to a dress code has led to outrage in the district and beyond.
In the circular, the collector has asked visitors, including officials from diffrent parts of the district, to wear a formal dress when visiting him. Jean and T-shirts are a strict No No', the notification said.
It added the visitors should either switch off their mobiles or keep them on silent mode when coming to meet him.
A notice specifying these do's and don'ts has been pasted prominently in front of the collector's office.
Despite several attempts, the collector was not available for a comment on the contentious circular.
The bizarre dress code circular has invited widespread criticism from different quarters.
“When people, including tribals and poor villagers are coming to meet the collector to present their issues for redressal, this kind of dress code circular does not look good,” Koraput municipality chairman said.
Expressing similar views, Krushna Chandra San, vice president, Koraput lawyers’ association, said “He (the collector) should first see how poor can get food, improve road connectivity. What is the point of issuing such fatwa? He should first keep his dress code proper first, then think of people.”
People also reacted to the diktat with sarcasm on the social media. "Await da day whn a babu will issue ordrs tht slipprs not allowed," tweeted environmental activist Biswajit Mohanty.
