Cuttack: Putting all uncertainties over the byelection in Bijepur to rest, Orissa High Court today closed the case filed in connection with irregularities during 2014 elections in the constituency.

As per the court’s ruling, petition was closed as Congress MLA Subal Sahu the opposite party in the case is no more.

“The HC said that all the demands of petitioner Prasanna Acharya to dismiss Sahu’s candidature and declare ‘casual vacancy’ in the constituency have been ‘fulfilled’ following the death of Sahu,” said Sahu’s lawyer, Taranikant Biswal.

BJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya had filed a petition in 2014 following his defeat to Sahu in the general polls citing irregularities in counting of votes.

Meanwhile, Acharya welcomed the verdict of the court and said, “It’s a right decision in view of the vacant Bijepur seat. The decision has paved the way for the Bijepur bypoll which is needed to be conducted within six months.”
