Bhubaneswar: The State government has decided to postpone the last date to apply and the preliminary exam date of the Odisha Civil Services Examination (OCSE) 2017, conducted by Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC).
The government has decided to defer the dates taking into cognizance complaints by the civil services aspirants that the preliminary exam date and the last date to submit application is very small.
"Keeping the concerns of aspirants in mind, we have decided to postpone the exam. The last date to apply will also be extended and a corrigendum in this regard will be issued soon, said Ashok Meena, special secretary (general administration).
As per the earlier notification, the application form was to be made available on the official website of OPSC from November 30 to December 14 while the last date to apply was December 12.
However, the prelim exam was scheduled to be held on December 24 which came as a shocker for candidates.
"No exam of OPSC has ever been conducted in such a small gap between the last date to apply and the prelim exam date. We also need time for the exam. We thank government that it has decided to change the dates in the very interest of lakhs of candidates," said a civil service aspirant, Dhiraj Pradhan.

Students applying under SC/ST/PWD categories, especially who are applying for the first time, will face problem as they need proper certificates to apply, he added.
Important to Note
Candidates under 32 and over 21 years of age as on January 1, 2017 -- not born earlier than January 2, 1985 AND later than January 1, 1996 -- are only eligible to apply. Age relaxation is there as per the norms.

In case of educational qualification, candidates applying must possess a Bachelor’s Degree.
The prelim exam will be consists of two papers of objective type-- (i) General Studies – Paper 1 – 200 marks and (ii) General Studies – Paper 2 – 200 Marks.
