Bhubaneswar: After the State Forensic Laboratory came out with a clarification that the findings - semen traces found on the clothes of Kunduli gang rape victim - as reported by OTV, were from a preliminary inter-divisional report; opposition parties suspected foul play and trained their guns at the ruling-BJD alleging it of making deliberate attempts to suppress the matter.
"It's a dire attempt to suppress the entire issue and destroy evidence," Congress leader Sasmita Behera said.
BJP also slammed the state government and its officers with party spokesperson Sajjan Sharma questioning the motive behind the final report.
“If the preliminary report pointed out that there was sexual assault there was no need for any second report. It shows that the state government intentionally prepared a secondary report to mislead. The second report is the result of a conspiracy,” said Sharma.
Former deputy director of State Forensic Laboratory, Bimalendu Ray questioned how is it possible to contradict the initial findings with the help of another report?
"In the preliminary report you say that there were traces of semen and in second report you contradict those findings. I have never seen such an instance in my 34-year career, he said.
On the other hand, the ruling-BJD denied allegations with spokesperson Sasmit Patra saying “Since a judicial enquiry has been ordered, truth will eventually come out."
In an exclusive report, OTV on Thursday showed that a report of the State Forensic Science Laboratory found traces of semen of two persons on the undergarments of the Kunduli gang rape victim. Soon after the telecast, the laboratory authorities clarified that the report quoted was a preliminary inter divisional report and the findings were not correct. The laboratory had filed a final report on October 23, 2017, they claimed.
