Rayagada: A woman of Dongaria Kondh, a primitive tribal group, has made a difference ! She is the first tribal from the State to be issued a passport to go abroad.
Dinj Dakesika from Kurli village under Bissam Cuttack block in Rayagada district is going abroad to attend the International Indigenous Film Festival (IIFF) scheduled to begin on January 24 at Bali in Indonesia. A city-based film production house has facilitated her travel including help in getting a passport issued for her .
Earlier in 2016, Dakesika was awarded with the Outstanding Woman Panchayat Leader in 2016 as Sarpanch of Kurli panchayat. She was recognized for her contribution to her community as a leader at a ceremony in New Delhi.
The films to be showcased in the international event will highlight the culture, lifestyle and struggle of indigenous people around the world.
