Bhubaneswar: The State government on Saturday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sulabh International to develop and maintain hybrid toilets in nine municipal areas under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Yojana.

The hybrid toilets named as ‘Ama Shouschalaya’ would come up in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Puri, Balasore, Baripada and Bhadrak. The municipal bodies will decide on the fee for use of these hybrid toilets.

The State government has targeted to end open defecation in all municipal areas in the State by October 2, 2019.

In a related development, a meeting chaired by Housing and Urban Development minister Puspendra Singhdeo discussed the AMRUT yojana. The State aims to spend Rs 530 crore on 143 projects this year.
