Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has made the installation of GPS (global positioning system) in the mineral transporting trucks mandatory to bring transparency in mines business, said steel and mines minister Prafulla Mallik.
The GPS device, which is linked to the Integrated Mines and Mineral Management System or i3MS software, aims to stop illegal transportation of minerals, said Mallik, adding that the steel and mines department is strictly following the instruction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to use the software.
The State government had earlier asked the truck owners to install GPS in their trucks as part of its initiative to stop illegal transportation of minerals.
The i3MS software has been developed by Odisha Space Application Centre (ORSAC) to track the trucks from the stage of loading to unloading of minerals.
The devise has been so far installed in around 37000 vehicles engaged in minerals transportation across the State.
