Bhubaneswar: The sale of beer in Odisha has increased by 21.13 percent this year, informed Excise Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera while replying to a question of Congress MLA Naba Kishore Das in the Odisha Assembly on Monday.
Not only beer, the sale of foreign liquor has increased by 2.86 percent and sale of country-made liquor has witnessed a growth of 6.85 percent. Last year, the sale of country-made liquor had fallen by 4.05 percent in comparison to its previous year.
Women have launched many anti-liquor campaigns at various intervals across Odisha. Many a time liquor outlets have also been ransacked by the women.
Behera in reply to a question of Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said cases have been registered against the women agitators. Two such cases have been registered in Jagatsinghpur district, 18 in Mayurbhanj, 11 in Angul and five in Bargarh.
Cases against women for ransacking liquor outlets have not been registered in any other district, added the Minister.
