Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Jail Employees Association (AOJEA) today put its hunger strike on hold following an assurance from the state government to resolve their issues within a month.
“The Association took the decision following assurance by the Additional Director General (Prisons) Arun Kumar Ray”, said its president Tamimur Rehman to the media.
Over 1,800 employees in 92 jails across Odisha were on hunger strike for an indefinite period from October 24 demanding hike in grade pay parity for warder, head warder and chief warder posts with the constable, havildar and havildar major of the State Police.
Prior to the hunger strike, the jail employees had worn black badges since October 20 as a mark of protest against the discrimination.
