Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions intensified in most parts of the state on Friday with Titlagarh turning out to be the hottest place recording 43.5 degree Celsius.
The mercury soared above 40 degree Celsius in at least 10 places in the state. As the entire western Odisha sizzled under intense heat, Titlagarh was closely followed by Bolangir in the region recording a maximum temperature of 42.6 degree Celsius, the Regional Meteorological Centre informed.
According to reports, Jharsuguda recorded 42.4 degree Celsius, while the temperature was 41.8 degree Celsius in both Sambalpur and Sonepur, 41.7 degC in Angul, 41.6 degC in Hirakud, 41 degC in Bhawanipatna, 40.4 degree in Malkangiri and 40 degree Celsius in Phulbani.
However in Bhubaneswar, mercury fell to 36.6 degree Celsius from 38.3 degrees Celsius recorded on Thursday, while in neighbouring Cuttack city the temperature stood at 35.2 degree Celsius.
People in several coastal areas, however, received some respite from the searing heat following marginal drop in temperature after rain and thundershower.
Meanwhile, the Met department has warned of strong winds and rough seas along the coasts of Odisha and advised fishermen not to venture out in the sea.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the Odisha coast is likely to witness strong winds speed occasionally reaching 40 -50 kmph with moderate to rough sea conditions. A trough is currently over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and a cyclonic circulation is also over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and west Assam. There is also a cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha and it will bring rains, the IMD said.
Thunderstorm accompanied with squall and hail are very likely at isolated places in Odisha while there will be no change in the warning issued on Thursday. As per the IMD prediction, the rough sea condition will prevail in nine states during April 21-22.
