Visakhapatnam: Authorities of Sri Chaitanya Junior College on Tuesday denied ragging to be the reason behind the death of Odia student Shreyas Kesharwani.
"As first year students were residing in the hostel, in which Kesharwani was staying, there was no chance of ragging," said Gopi Krishna, chief administrator of the junior college located at Marikavalasa.
Meanwhile, a team of Sambalpur police reached Sri Chaitanya Junior College and began a probe in association with the Visakhapatnam police.
The cops are also likely to quiz classmates of Kesharwani, sources said.
Kesharwani was allegedly ragged by his friends at the college hostel a few days ago. The family members alleged that he was beaten up by three to four students after which he sustained critical injuries. Since the college authorities did not take any step even after his family members brought the matter to their notice, the latter brought Shreyas back to home.
He was admitted to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment and later shifted to Bhubaneswar. Shreyas died while undergoing treatment at the hospital last Saturday.
The family members of the deceased had lodged a complaint at the Gadaposa police outpost three days back.
