Pug marks like those of wolves have been spotted near the sheds of the sheep, said a forest official.
Earlier on Thursday, a lamb was found dead in similar style at Gobindapada village in the district following which the villagers staged a road blockade on Niali-Phulnakhara road with the dead animal demanding compensation.
Later, Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray expressed resentment over the deaths and directed the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) to take immediate action for tracing out the killer.
Meanwhile, the forest department has expedited night patrolling in the villages under the Niali block with the help of local residents. Loud crackers were also burst to scare away the animals. However, installation of CCTV cameras and laying of traps have not yet been done in the vulnerable areas.
