Jajpur: A baby girl, born today, was abandoned by her parents in a hospital in Jajpur road. The infant is under the care of hospital authorities.
Medical authorities informed the local police about the incident. They said a couple, who registered their names as Ambika and Deepak Mohanty from Sukinda area in the district, had come to the hospital two days ago. Ambika had a normal delivery even as the baby was born with physical defect, as her back has not completely developed, authorities added.
“The baby has physical defect for which advance treatment are available. I advised the woman to consult with neonatal care unit of SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack. But, she was reluctant to receive the baby. Soon after we shifted the patient to ward from labour room, she and her relatives left the newborn alone”, Parasnjit Kar, Medical in-charge of Jajpur Road CHC, said.
“Now, we are looking after the health of the baby till the parents are traced. Police have been informed over the issue”, he added.
She might have abandoned the girl child due to unusual feature on the back, a nurse said.
