Kendrapara: In what came as a shock to the villagers and family members alike, a married woman of Khandeipada village in Kendrapara, who was allegedly murdered by in-laws five years back, was caught by her husband while getting married to another youth at her ancestral village.
Surprisingly, the parents of the woman, identified as Mamata Mallik, had registered a murder case at Rajnagar police station following her disappearance. Acting on the complaint, police had arrested her husband and brother-in-law (elder brother of her husband). Both of them were released on bail after spending three months in jail.
"She had left home five years ago and didn't return. Her parents had alleged that we had murdered her," said Minaketan Mallick, Mamata’s husband.
Her brother-in-law Madhab said, "She left home when I was not present. Her family members had registered a case against us. I along with my brother was sent to jail."
Mamata had left home leaving behind her two sons while her husband was in Rajastahan in search of job. She alleged that physical torture by her in-laws had forced her to leave home.
"I had left home for Hyderabad due to physical torture by my husband and other family members. The allegations against me are false," Mamata said.
Her sudden appearance came at a time when people considered her as dead. However, her husband Minaketan received a tip off that Mamata has returned to her ancestral village at Terehi and is getting married to another man.
He immediately informed police who swung into action and detained the woman and her groom.
Kendrapara SP Dayanidhi Gochhayat said "Investigation will now be intensified."
