Angul: While his remarks continue to spark debate in political circles, back in his own constituency, BJD’s Dhenkanal MP, Tathagat Satpathy suffered an embarrassing moment when he failed to attend a meeting organised by a samiti member.
As a part of BJD’s ‘Gaon Ku Chalo’ campaign, Tathagat visited Nuamouja panchayat of Angul district today in the afternoon. To welcome the leader, two separate public meetings were arranged, one each by the samiti member and the sarpanch.
According to samiti member, Ranjita Nayak, Tathagat ignored her welcome gesture and went on to attend the meeting arranged by the sarpanch.
This triggered protests among the supporters of the samiti member who ransacked their own meeting venue and raised slogans against the parliamentarian by burning his posters and banners.
Later, Tathagat was seen apologising the samiti member. However, as tension prevailed over the issue, Tathagat left the village in his own vehicle.
“We made all arrangements for Tathagat and were waiting for him on the road. However, he went to the other meeting,” said Ranjita.
“There is no disappointment or resentment. As two persons had arranged two different meetings, we should have met the samiti member first. But inadvertently we took a wrong route and could not meet her due to which there was some protest,” said Angul block president, Niranjan Dehuri.
