Bhubaneswar: A patient, who was admitted to a nursing home for surgery of his fractured hand, died reportedly after he was administered some injection as part of treatment. Alleging medical negligence, the family members of the deceased ransacked portion of the hospital on Friday night.

The mob went berserk after the patient Jaichandra Das, who was admitted to the hospital three days back, died allegedly after he was administered wrong injection by anesthesia doctor prior to his surgery.

Das, who worked as a mason, was injured after falling off a three-storied building while working at a construction site. He was admitted to the nursing home for surgery after his hand got fractured in the mishap.

"After taking the patient to the operation theater, the doctors informed us that his condition deteriorated and shifted him to ICU. Our patient died of wrong treatment. They started to avoid us after we requested for all the medical records," said an attendant.

Following the incident, the patient's attendants also scuffled with police after they had arrived at the spot to maintain law and order.

Though senior officials of Commissionerate police refused to comment on the matter, the body has been sent for post mortem.

Meanwhile, the concerned doctor has been detained in connection with the incident while further investigation is on, sources said.
