Miscreants beat bar owner, staff after extortion attempt

Bhubaneswar: A bar owner and his employees were brutally thrashed by more than 20 miscreants who allegedly tried to extort money from the bar.

The incident occured in the Laxmisagar area of the city on Monday night.

According to information, the bar owner Satyaranjan Mohanty, who is also Odisha Bar Association General Secretary, and his elder brother were beaten by the mob after they denied paying Rs 2 lakh as extortion money.

When some employees of the bar protested they too were roughed up. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed inside the bar.

Following the attack, Satyaranjan had filed an FIR at Laxmisagar police station but the cops are yet to nab any miscreants involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, police were unavailable for any comments on the issue.
