Bhubaneswar: Kharvelnagar police on Thursday arrested three miscreants for attacking OTV crew which caught them on camera while assaulting an auto driver in front of the BJP office here.
The accused have been identified as Jeet Mohanty (18), Duresh Naik (24) and Sagar Dalai (23) were arrested near Bhubaneswar railway station by Commissionerate police after taking suo motu cognizance of the case.
Earlier, the three miscreants were seen thrashing an auto driver for overtaking their two wheeler at around 2 pm at Kharvelnagar. The three youths pulled out the driver from his vehicle in which a family along with a child were travelling. While beating up the driver incessantly, OTV crew shot the scene and opposed the assault on the driver when the miscreants started pushing the camera and the OTV crew members and attempted to attack them.
However, the passers-by came to the rescue of the team. When the irate public chased the three youths, they fled on their scooter.
"We were here for the admission of our son into Sainik school but the unsocial elements stopped the auto rickshaw twice. Even though the auto driver had not broken any traffic rule or hit their vehicle, they had thrashed the driver once already and again stopped the vehicle and beat him up before the BJP office," said Baidnath Sahu, a passenger of the auto.
Even though the Kharavela Nagar police station is close by and the spot is also close to the traffic signal, police could not reach on time to nab the attackers. Later, police reached the spot and after seeing the visuals captured by the OTV team, identified the culprits and their vehicle number.
