Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre today issued a heat wave alert and predicted a two-three degrees Celsius-rise in temperature during March 29 and 30 in the State.
“Temperature will continue to rise in the next two-three days as per the present climatic conditions,” said Sarat Chandra Sahu, director of the Regional Meteorological Centre.
However, there is likelihood of Nor'wester rain between March 30 and April 1 which could provide some relief to people in north and coastal Odisha, he added. Wind speed is likely to reach 50-60 km per hour during that time, Met sources stated.
Meanwhile today, five cities in the State recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.
Titilagarh and Sonepur were the hottest at 41 degrees Celsius, whereas Bolangir and Malkangiri recorded 40.5 and 40.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Mercury in Jharsuguda was at 40 degrees Celsius while Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 34.9 and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively.
