Bhubaneswar: Mercury continued to plummet in several parts of Odisha with as many as 15 towns recording temperatures below 10 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
According to information from the weather office, almost all major towns in the state have recorded minimum temperatures below 14 degree Celsius. Minimum temperatures continued to drop further during night hours due to clear sky and cold wave conditions sweeping from north India.
Temperature dipped further to a biting 3 degree Celsius in Daringbadi, the lowest in the State, while Phulbani shivered at 3.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday. Temperature dropped by few degrees in major towns with Sundergharh recording 5.5 degree Celsius, Keonjhar 7.4 degree Celsius and Bhawanipatna 7.5 degree Celsius.
Among other places, Angul settled at a minimum of 7.6 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 7.8 degree Celsius, Hirakud 8.3 degree Celsius, Bolangir and Sonepur at 8.5 degree Celsius, Baripada 8.6 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 8.9 degree Celsius, Dhenkanal and Balasore at 9.3 degree Celsius and Talcher 9.9 degree Celsius.
Similarly, minimum temperature also dropped to 10.6 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar while Cuttack recorded 11 degree Celsius.
Normal life has been badly hit due to the cold wave condition with locals preferring to stay indoors after sunset. Roads and streets have been wearing a deserted look during evening hours in rural and semi urban areas.
People are seen huddling around fire to warm themselves. Slum dwellers and homeless have been the biggest sufferers due to intense cold wave conditions.
