Berhampur: The second year medical students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here staged an all-night dharna in front of the college alleging ragging by their seniors.
As per reports, the third year medical students barged into the second year students' hostel last night and allegedly tortured them physically. They even cut hair of the students and made them to stand for long hours in open.
The protesting students alleged that as the torture of the third year students turned a daily affair, they were left with no choice but to sit on dharna.

"We were earlier assured by the college administration that no seniors would involve in ragging but after being shifted to the hostel meant for second year students, we were mentally and physically harassed. Eight to nine students were being forced to stay in a single room and we were even not allowed to the mess for food," alleged one second year student.
"The third year students always beat us up. We were even beaten up by the seniors late last night following which we approached the principal but he told us to handle the matter on our own and he would look into it later. But he is yet to intervene," said another student.

"The students had earlier on September 1 registered complaint with Anti-ragging Cell of the college. I will sort out the matter after holding talks with the students, says Principal of MKCG Medical College and Hospital," Arun Kumar Dandapat.
Meanwhile, the local BJD MLA Ramesh Chandra Chau Patnaik said that the senior and junior students should maintain brotherhood and any ragging related act is not acceptable.
"The principal must ensure 'no ragging' in the campus by banning ragging activities totally in the college," the legislator added.
