Maoists claim responsibility for abduction of ‘Gaon Sathi’

Phulbani: Posters of CPI (Maoist) Bansdhara-Ghumsuara-Nagabali (BGN) Divisional Committee were found today at Durgapanga village near Kotagada in Kandhamal district claiming responsibility for the abduction of a ‘Gaon Sathi,’ Basant Bhatt.

In the posters, the ultras claimed they kidnapped Bhatt but did not mention any reason behind their act.

“Maoists have put up posters stating that they have abducted ‘Gaon Sathi’ of Durgapanga village under Gotagada police station. We have sent a team of police and other experts to the spot for investigation. Legal action will be initiated if the claims are proved true,” Kandhamal DSP Chandrasekhar Hota said.

Besides, the Maoists alleged Odisha government’s negligence towards farmers and slammed the administration over rising atrocities against women in the State.

The posters also opposed the construction of barrages by the Chhattisgarh government on Mahanadi River and said that the water from the river is meant for farmers and not for private companies.

The left wing extremists also condemned the alleged rape of a minor in Koraput district by some security men.

Earlier in September, the red rebels had put up posters in Rayagada district alleging State government’s failure in providing education and health services to locals.
