Bhubaneswar: The hearing on the bail plea of SUM Hospital owner Manoj Nayak concluded today. However, the verdict was reserved by the additional district and sessions judge.
Moreover, the hearing also concluded on the bail plea of capital hospital superintendent Pusparaj Samantsinghar.

Currently, Manoj Nayak is lodged in Jharpara Jail. The court heard the bail plea of Manoj Nayak after the commissionerate police filed a case diary against the hospital owner.
According to sources, the court after hearing the arguments of both sides has kept its verdict reserved.
“We have told the court that there are no liabilities of Manoj Nayak in the deaths of the patients due to the fire mishap. The institution is guided by UGC and role of Manoj Nayak is very limited and he has no direct links with the incident,” said Manoj Nayak’s counsel Surya Das.
“Our argument was that there are no significant responsibilities of the superintendent in the fire that broke out. The scope of duties of a superintendent does not include a fire accident,” said Pusparaj Samantsinghar’s counsel, Dharanidhar Nayak.
“Prima facie a case is made out against both of them hence we are opposing the bail. We have submitted all the documents and based on the details produced by the investigating officer we opposed the bail,” said Public Prosecutor, Pradyumna Patnaik.
On the other hand, the commissionerate police has issued summons to two other trustees of SOA Charitable trust, the promoter of SUM Hospital. The two trustees have been identified as Manoj Nayak’s wife Saswati Das and Sister Arati Ranjana Nayak. According to sources, both of them have been asked to appear before the police within 7 days.
