Man strangulates daughter after tiff with wife

Keonjhar: Police today arrested a man for strangulating his four-year-old daughter in sleep.

The arrested has been identified as Santosh Mohanta of Sahadapur village under Sadar Police Station limits.

Talking to media persons, Santosh’s wife Phulamani Mohanta said her husband used to beat her up every day. “On November 28, my husband returned to his house and had a quarrel with me. Later, he severely beat me up. But I did not say anything to him. This morning, I came to my father’s house with my 2-year-old son. As my eldest daughter and her younger sister Sonali had gone to the Anganwadi Centre, I could not take them with me. Yesterday, my husband came to my house to take me to his house. But as I refused, he went away. This morning, my husband came again and told me that my daughter Sonali has died. At this, I told my father and brother to go my husband’s house. But as they did not find my daughter, they asked the younger brother of my husband who said Santosh has taken his daughter to the hospital as she has fallen ill,” she added.

Asked about the incident, Keonjhar SDPO, Harish Chandra Pandey said police has arrested Santosh following a complaint lodged by his wife and sent the body of the minor girl for post mortem.
