Man killed, another critically injured as truck hits them

Keonjhar: A person was crushed to death while another sustained critical injuries when a speedy truck hit them on national highway (NH)-215 at Biragobindpur Chhak under Ghasipur police limits in Keonjhar district early this morning.

The deceased was identified as Ramachandra Naik.

The two were returning home after defecating in a nearby field. While they were crossing the NH, the speedy truck hit them killing Ramachandra on the spot.  Soon after, the truck driver fled away leaving the vehicle on the spot. Critically-injured Sumant Naik was later admitted to Anandpur hospital for treatment.

Angry over the incident, some locals blocked the NH demanding compensation to the deceased’s family. Vehicular traffic on the road came to a standstill due to the protest.

Later, police reached the spot and pacified the angry mob besides seizing the truck.
