Woman hacked to death by husband on court premises

Sambalpur: A woman was today killed in a sword attack by her husband at the Sambalpur District Family Court premises. The deceased Sanjita Choudhry succumbed to her injuries at the Burla medical college.

Mother and niece of the deceased woman who had accompanied her to the court for a counselling session were  also left grievously injured in the attack.

Both the injured -Lalita Choudhry and Shivani are in critical condition, informed hospital authorities.

Earlier in the day,  the accused Ramesh Kumbhar of Sindurapanka village attacked the trio with a sharp sword. He was immediately overpowered by the public and handed over to police.

The accused had apparently pre-planned the attack and was already present on the court premises with the sword, said an eyewitness adding that family feud could be the reason behind such attack.

As soon as the victims, arrived on the premises, Kumbhar attacked them with the sharp weapon.

Following the attack, the injured trio was immediately rushed to the district hospital and later admitted to the Burla hospital where the woman succumbed to her injuries

“The accused has been arrested and a sword has been seized from his possession. Investigation is on,” informed Pradip Sahu IIC of the Sambalpur police station.
