Kendrapara: A woman sustained grievous injuries after a crocodile pounced on her near a canal at Balabhadraprasad village under Rajnagar block of the district here on Thursday.
The incident took place yesterday evening when the victim, Laxmipriya Rout had gone to the nearby canal to attend nature’s call. Suddenly, a crocodile attacked her from behind and was trying to drag the victim into deep water. On hearing the woman's scream, local people rushed to the spot to rescue her.
Sources said Laxmipriya is undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital here with deep injuries in her right thigh.
However, she is stated to be out of danger, sources added.
Recently, another woman was attacked by the reptile in Debanarayan village under Rajnagar block of the district when she had gone to graze cattle near the banks of Bainsagada River. She too was fortunate to escape from the jaws of death.
