Man arrested for torturing mentally challenged girl in Soro

Soro: A man was arrested on Monday for tying a mentally challenged minor girl with a rope and beating her up in Sajanpur village under Soro block of the district.

The arrested person, identified as Bipin Sahoo along with some others tortured the minor girl, Rachana Lenka, for allegedly stealing firewood from the house of one Laxmidhar Sahoo of the same village.

Bipin, a relative of Laxmidhar, was arrested after mother of the minor girl lodged a police complaint.

The police as well as the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights came to know about the incident after a video of the torture, which reportedly took place on Thursday, went viral.

To suppress the matter, family of Bipin had allegedly offered Rs 1,000 to Rachana's family.
