Malkangiri: Normal life was disrupted for the second day running in Malkangiri town due to the bandh called by the District Congress Committee and Town Congress Committee demanding four essential services to the people.
While heavy vehicles stayed off the road, all trading and business establishments downed their shutters in support of the bandh.
In the morning, several Congress workers, led by former Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi, staged a dharna at Subhas Bose Chhak in the town.
Talking to media persons, Majhi said the bandh has entered the second day with the wholehearted support of the people of Malkangiri town.
“The people have staged economic blockade. Vehicular traffic in the town has come to a grinding halt. We have closed all government offices, including the office of the district collector and the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA),” Majhi said.
Apart from Malkangiri town, the bandh is also being observed in MV-79, Padia and Kalimela areas of the district where all government offices and business establishments have remained closed, he added.
The former MP said the thousands of people in Malkangiri town had disconnected power and drinking water supply line from the residential office of the district collector yesterday.
“Let the collector realise as to how the people of the district are leading their lives without water and electricity,” he had said.
