Bhubaneswar: After filing an injunction suit, the Odisha government has begun the process to file an interim petition in Supreme Court on Mahanadi water sharing dispute with Chhattisgarh.
According to sources, the petition will seek immediate halt to project work being undertaken by the Chhattisgarh government on the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi.
“The Odisha government has already moved the Supreme Court. In a bid to expedite the process, we are ready to take any step. If we have to move the apex court once again to expedite the process, then we will not shy away from it,” BJD spokesperson, Pratap Deb told media person here today.
“When an injunction prayer application is filed, then immediately an interim application is filed. The government after 15 days realised that it has to file an interim application. I don’t understand what the State government is doing and I don’t believe that Odisha will get any benefit out of it,” senior lawyer, Manas Mohapatra pointed out.

Notably, after exhausting all options, the Odisha government decided to take legal recourse and moved the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the BJD has also decided to put its human chain campaign against Chhattisgarh’s projects on Mahanadi on hold.
