Kendrapara: Tension prevailed at Jadupur Gada under Mahakalpada block of Kendrapara district after three bike-borne miscreants misbehaved with a college girl in broad daylight today.
According to sources, the miscreants fled the spot after public came to her rescue.
Irate locals have staged road blockade on the National Highway 5A near Jadupur Gada demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. One platoon of police force has been deployed at the spot.
As per her own admission, the girl was misbehaved by a single youth, said Principal of Gopinathpur Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Pratap Kumar Das.
"The girl had left home by bus and later boarded a Tata Ace to reach her college in Jadupur Gada. The Tata Ace driver had dropped her in a place far away from her college and she was walking to college when a youth, whom she identified as her fellow passenger, blocked her way and pulled her to a nearby bush. She somehow escaped from his clutches and in the meantime people in the area came to her rescue," added Das.
DSP Ashok Behera said, “The patrolling was lessened in the area due to Laxmi Puja. Patrolling will be intensified now. We pacified the locals to remove the road blockade. We, along with Sarpanch, lecturers and Principal of the College safely took the girl. Investigation is on. The accused will be arrested soon.”
