Bhubaneswar: Tension continued for the third day on Saturday at Daruthenga village on the outskirts of the capital city as locals staged a blockade by placing logs on the road protesting against garbage dumping in the area.
According to sources, dumping of garbage in the area has been disrupted due to the protest by the locals.
Talking to newsmen, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said, "We are trying to aware the locals everyday. We are abiding all the directives of Orissa High Court, state as well as central pollution control board. I request the locals to cooperate with the proceedings."
Satyabrata Bhoi, Bhubaneswar DCP, said, "Now the situation is under control as the locals have staged a silent protest. Senior officials have been deployed at the spot."
On Friday, the villagers clashed with police during the dumping of waste materials at the selected place.
Around 300-400 agitators pelted stones injuring some policemen. Police used tear gas shells and fired rubber bullets to disperse the mob, which was getting violent. Twelve villagers were injured in retaliatory action by the police.
Amid beefed up security, 132 trips of garbage were dumped yesterday.
