Jagatsinghpur: Defying a village decree against sale of alcohol cost a man dear as hundreds of women blackened his face and paraded him in the village with a garland of shoes at Gadaharishpur under Ersama Police Station in Jagatsinghpur dist today.

The women under the banner of 'Jhansi Rani Mahila Mahasangh', an outfit spearheading a movement against alcohol, detained the illegal liquor trader named Maheswar Jena for going against their movement to keep the village free of liquor.

They also ransacked the manufacturing unit of Jena and seized the unlawful items and raw material. The women activists alleged that the illegal trade has become rampant at the behest of excise and police department even as they have launched a mass movement in their locality against consumption and sale of liquor. A massive awareness campaign had also been carried out at regular intervals to educate people especially youth mass about the evil effect of liquor and drugs.
