Rourkela: Demanding appointment of judges to fill up the vacant posts in Rourkela Family Court, lawyers of Rourkela Bar Association today locked the main gate of the court situated at Udit Nagar here today.
Various sensitive cases, including marital disputes are pending in the court since days due to an acute shortage of judges, the agitating lawyers alleged.
The Rourkela Bar Association had also called for a cease-work agitation earlier over various demands including immediate appointment of judges against the vacancies.
"Earlier on February 19, the Rourkela Bar Association had decided to launch a cease-work agitation. Appointment of judges at the Family Court was one of our major demands. Even after 15 days we have not received any assurance from the Orissa High Court. Therefore, the association decided to completely close the Family Court. The clerical works of the court have been discontinued and it will remain closed till any further measures are taken for appointment of judges," said an agitating lawyer.
