Cuttack: Litigants suffered as advocates across Odisha boycotted courts in protest against the proposed changes in the Advocates Act, 1961, which governs the conduct of lawyers.
Odisha State Bar Council has opposed the proposals of the Bar Council of India (BCI) made to the Law Commission that lawyers who indulge in strikes should be fined and their licences suspended.
The proposals made by Bar Council of India (BCI) chairman Manan Kumar Mishra to the Law Commission regarding the amendment which has been done without consulting any other members of the BCI and State bodies, alleged State Bar Council officials.
“We have put our grievances before the Union Law Minister, who has assured to take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appropriate decision,” said Chairman, Odisha State Bar Council, Manas Ranjan Mohapatra.
State Bar Council officials said the term of 17 State Bar Councils has already expired and the proposals have been made by Mishra without consulting to any other members of the BCI and state bodies.
