Cuttack: A lady sub-inspector (SI) today accused the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Cuttack GRP, Soubhagya Ranjan Swain of sexually harassing her in 2015.
The lady officer has lodged a complaint in this regard at Mahila Police Station and her statement has been recorded under Section 161 of the CrPC.
According to reports, the victim officer had earlier levelled charges of mental harassment against the IIC back in 2015. Based on the allegations, SP had ordered the DSP to carry out a probe. But her allegations were dropped after the DSP gave a clean chit to the IIC.
Meanwhile, the accused IIC has refuted the allegations saying that the lady officer is trying to tarnish his image. The officer said that if she was sexually harassed in 2015, why she did not reveal the same in two and a half years.
Citing that disciplinary actions were initiated against the lady cop for unauthorised leave and her promotion was stopped, the accused officer said that he is being targeted by the lady after she was denied promotion.
Meanwhile, Cuttack SP, Bana Bihari Sahu said, “A case has been registered against the IIC under section 376 of IPC. The lady officer did not level any sexual harassment charges when she was interrogated in 2015 after she brought mental harassment charges. So an internal committee has been set up to investigate the matter and accordingly action will be taken,” the SP said.
