Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high after BJP supporters reportedly breached 'security cordon' in an attempt to storm into Naveen Nivas, the residence of Odisha Chief Minister here on Monday demanding his resignation over Kunduli incident.
The BJP supporters tricked the cops and managed to stage a demonstration near Naveen Nivas even though a thick blanket of security cover was made by Commissionerate police in view of the agitation.
Protesting government inaction in providing justice to the Kunduli girl, who committed suicide after rape, hundreds of supporters of the saffron party had organised a rally from Ram Mandir in Bhubaneswar.
Though adequate security measures were made, the BJP supporters managed to sneak in through the security by taking an alternative route to Naveen Nivas by avoiding the main road near Sishu Bhawan chhak.
Later, BJP supporters scuffled with police after they were intercepted by security personnel. Scores of supporters as well as senior leaders were taken into preventive custody by police.
The protest rally was organised as part of the strategy of the BJP to corner Odisha government on the entire Kunduli incident that has also sparked public outrage in the State.
Accusing BJD-led Odisha government of trying to destroy evidences in Kunduli gang rape and suicide, BJP demanded for a resignation of the Chief Minister. The party is also demanding for a CBI probe into the incident.
