Bhubaneswar: After month-long hue and cry, the alleged gang rape incident of minor girl in Kunduli of Koraput took a dramatic turn today as the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) ADG revealed the medical reports claim no evidence of rape. However, investigation is still on.
The ADG Mahendra Pratap who submitted the medical reports to the Odisha Human Rights Commission on Monday said medical experts have found no proof of gang rape after examining the girl. “I have discussed with all medical experts treating the girl at Kunduli, Jeypore and MKCG hospital in Berhampur during course of investigation. I have submitted the reports attached with doctors’ version to the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) yesterday. As per doctors’ opinion, there is no such evidence of rape,” Pratap told OTV over phone.
An hour before the telephonic conversation, DGP RP Sharma also dropped a few lines on this while reviewing security at Kalinga Stadium for World Hockey League in Bhubaneswar.
“All medical and scientific experts were engaged to find out the truth. During the course of investigation, the movement of security forces, who were alleged to be involved in the case, could not be established. Koraput SP has acquired a vital clue on the case. I hope the matter will be sorted out soon,” Sharma told newsmen.
The 14-old-girl of Kunduli in Koraput district had alleged that she was gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 which triggered State-wide outrage forcing police to declare it as a ‘Red-flag’ case.
A case under Sections 376 (D) and 377 of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered.
Irked, local residents had blocked NH 26 connecting Jeypore and Visakhapatnam for several hours making serious inconvenience for the commuters on October 11, a day after the incident. In the aftermath, more road blockades, agitations and mass dharna were witnessed across the State.
