Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today issued a gazette notification on formation of a commission of inquiry and appointed Koraput district judge as its chief to investigate into the alleged gang rape of a minor girl of Kunduli in Koraput district.
In the notification, the government asked the Commission to submit reports within three months. "The Commission will enquire into and report in respect of three matters- the sequence of events alleged to have led to the purported crime, the person (s) responsible for the incident and any other matter connected with incidental there to, as the Commission may consider appropriate," the notification read.
While the headquarters of the Commission will be at Jeypore, it may hold its sittings at any other place as required for the purpose of inquiry, it stated further.
CM Naveen Patnaik had ordered a judicial probe into the matter on November 8 last year. His announcement came after police ruled out any rape of the tribal girl. The medical reports submitted to the Odisha Human Rights Commission by Additional Director General of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) Mahendra Pratap mentioned that the medical experts have found no proof of gang rape after examining the girl.
The Class IX student had alleged that she was gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 while returning from school. The incident triggered a Statewide outrage.
