KNagar firing: BBJM seeks DNA test report to unravel chopped palm story

Jajpur: Eleven years after the Kalinga Nagar firing incident in Jajpur district, Bisthapana Birodhi Jana Manch (BBJM) has demanded a DNA test of the chopped palms of the five unclaimed bodies.

The outfit has submitted a memorandum addressed to Jajpur District Collector through the Sub Collector in this regard.

It is worth mentioning that 13 tribals had been killed in police firing on January 2, 2006 during the boundary construction of Tata Company at Kalinga Nagar. Among them palms of five unclaimed bodies were chopped, kept in hospital and later handed over to BBJM.

Now the BBJM has warned that if the claimants of the chopped palms are not identified by means of DNA test, it may lead to public unrest in coming days.

Talking to mediapersons, BBJM Secretary Rabindra Jarika said, "We spoke to the district administration and they said DNA test has been conducted, but reports have not come. Since  dissatisfaction is brewing among people and it might have wrong repercussions."
