Bhubaneswar: Opposition parties have now trained their guns on Odisha Government for the inordinate delay to table the report of Justice P.K. Mohanty Commission of Inquiry into the Kalinga Nagar police firing in Jajpur district in 2006.
Both the Congress and the BJP have also slammed the report as no official have been indicted for the incident in which 13 people were killed in police firing .
Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra on Friday questioned the intention of the State Government to table the judicial commission’s report in the Assembly almost two years after the report was submitted. “As per norms, the report should have been placed in the house within six months of submission of the report. While the Commission submitted its report to the Government on July 3, 2015, the latter accepted it on June 8, 2016,”said Mishra.

Accusing the State Government of having no faith in law and constitution, Mishra further questioned how the recommendations and contents of the report were leaked in media.
The cabinet in its first meeting after the major ministry reshuffle held yesterday had approved the proposals to table the report of the Justice P.K. Mohanty Commission of Inquiry into Kalinga Nagar police firing.
Home secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy, however, said the commission had not recommended action against any official.
The State Government claimed that most of the recommendations of Mohanty Commission that included formulation of a beneficial and comprehensive scheme for land losers, provision of suitable employment to one member each of firing victims and payment of additional ex-gratia to persons injured in the police firing, had already been complied with.
BJP on the other hand termed the report as ‘superfluous and biased’.
“12 tribals and a police personnel were killed in Kalinga Nagar firing and how come nobody was held guilty for it. Somebody should have been held responsible. The report is superfluous and biased and we cannot trust it,'' said BJP leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan.
