Sambalpur: The Odisha government on Wednesday sent a clear message to the agitating medicos at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla that it will take action against the doctors who fail to join their new place of work.
Informing this to media, additional secretary of Health Department Surjit Das said since the State is facing shortage of doctors, there is little scope of cancelling the transfer order as demanded by some local political parties.
“The doctors have been transferred on the basis of promotion. Hence they are sent to new medical colleges like Baripada in Mayurbhanj district and Koraput where the sessions will commence from the coming academic session,” Das said.
“We will take stringent action against the medicos who fail to join their respective new workstations,” he pointed out.

The official stated that the health services would not be hampered despite the ongoing strike by the doctors at VIMSAR.
Two days back after the government notified about the transfer orders, activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest demanding the withdrawal of mass transfer of doctors and warned that protest will be intensified if the transfer order is not withdrawn. On Sunday, the junior doctors’ association (JDA), house surgeons, PG doctors and UG medical students of VIMSAR carried out a unified protest against the transfer order of 14 doctors of the medical college.
JDA said that there is a major shortage of medicos in VIMSAR and that the step will badly hamper the medical services. They said it is not good on part of the government to transfer doctors to other areas.
