Jatni: Following allegations of irregularities in the under-construction Jatni flyover, a 10-member team of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela today conducted a spot visit and begun its probe into the charges.
Sources said the team led by Mahavir Panda, the Head Of the Department (HOD) of Civil Engineering of the institute will examine the load capacity of the under-construction bridge and check the quality of slabs.
However, the team has ruled out any chances of examining iron rods used in pier of the under-construction flyover, the sources added.
Meanwhile, mild tension erupted at the bridge work site today when local traders demanded a probe into the size of iron rods used in piers. But they were opposed by councillors of the Jatni municipality so that the NIT team could conduct the probe.
The local administration deployed police to dissuade the tension and help the NIT team examine the bridge.
