Nabarangpur: At a time of merciless deforestation in the name of modernisation, Jaga Bisoi, a resident of Taraguda in Nabarangpur has created a niche for himself and inspiration for others. He had made attempts to save environment through massive forestation measures, an effort that has earned him the title of 'Tree Man'.
Thanks to his love for trees, Jaga has been able to plant more than 10,000 trees which include 78 rare species of extinct medicinal breed.
“Ever since I was 15 years old, I have been planting trees and it feels really good when all of them that I plant live up to grow and flourish. I urge all my fellow farmers to plant trees so that there is no dearth of plants and we never run short of any fruits, flowers and even rains,” Jaga said to OTV.
His attempts are a big example of how education does not matter when it comes to awareness and consciousness about your environment. Jaga has studied up to class III but educated the society through his efforts.
“He does everything all by himself, from watering to manuring and nurturing and caretaking of the plants,” Sashibhusan Bishoi, a local resident said.
Tagged ‘Tree Man’ he has never used any tech and modern farm knowledge to nurture trees but grown them with love.
He keeps distributing saplings to others free of cost.
The local forest personnel have admired the noble attempt of Jaga. Nabarangpur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Swayam Mallick says Jaga will be awarded for his efforts.
“Jaga should be praised for his outstanding work. We have so many awards like ‘Prakruti Bandhu, Prakruti Mitra, felicitated many on days like World Environment Day, Forestry Day and Wild Life Week. We will make sure Jaga's effort is made an example and he is given a state level award for his contribution,” Mallick said.
