Bhubaneswar: While the intense heat wave condition continues in interior Odisha with Titlagarh being the hottest place at 46.3 degree Celsius on Sunday, the local Met office has predicted that the temperature is likely to go up alarmingly in the coastal districts in next three days.
Talking to OTV, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said two cyclonic circulations have formed this morning in the eastern and north-east regions of which one has formed at a height of 900 metres over Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand and West Bengal and the other at a height of 1.5 km over Assam and its adjoining areas.
“Besides, a trough line originating from the cyclonic circulation formed over Assam has stretched up to Uttar Pradesh. Under its influence the wind flow towards Odisha is from north-west direction. As a result, the wind speed is more in South Odisha (35 kmph) than in the North Odisha (25 kmph). Considering the wind speed in South Odisha, the local fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea as the sea water would be rough,” Sahu added.
He further said there is possibility of kalabaisakhi (Norwester) in Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh and some parts of Rayagada district in south and central districts and some parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Balasore and Bhadrak districts in the north and coastal districts in the next 24 hours. However, the amount of rainfall would be much less, he added.
But he said while the heat wave condition would prevail in the west and central Odisha, temperature in coastal district go up alarmingly and likely to touch 45 degrees and above in the next three days after April 20.
As per the Met release this evening, apart from Titlagarh, temperature went up to 40 degrees and above in 18 places of which nine places recorded 44 degree and above.
