Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Monday deferred hearing of petition of Debananda Mohapatra and Subhas Mohapatra to August 10 and September 6 respectively in alleged irregularity in CM Naveen Patnaik's election expenditure.
BJP leader Debananda Mohapatra, who unsuccessfully contested Assembly election from Hinjili against Naveen Patnaik, had moved the court seeking disqualification of candidature of CM Naveen from the assembly constituency.
Mohapatra alleged that Naveen submitted false data about his election expenditure to the Election Commission of India (ECI) during 2014 elections.
Similarly, RTI activist Subash Mohapatra had filed a petition in High Court in July acting on which the court had issued a notice to the ECI. The petitioner appraised the court through his petition that there are discrepancies in statement of accounts and expenses submitted by Naveen after the 2014 general elections. The court has asked ECI to file its response by August 17.
However, Ganjam collector had also moved the court seeking recall of the notice to the poll body alleging that the petitioner is not a resident of the concerned constituency.
