Cuttack: Tension prevailed in Rajabagicha area of Cuttack today after an altercation ensued between two neighbouring streets over idol immersion procession of Goddess Durga on October 1. Even police officials were injured in the incident.
According to sources, residents of Sarvodayapur and Sweeper Colony indulged in a verbal altercation over an issue that transpired during the idol immersion ceremony of Goddess Durga. Soon, the two groups hurled glass bottles and stones at each other and blocked the main road.
On getting information, police forces rushed to the spot but the situation further deteriorated when the irate mob hurled bottles and pelted stones also at the police personnel injuring two IICs of nearby police stations, sources said.
To ward off any further escalation of unrest, City Police Commissioner and DCP rushed to review the incident.
Purighat police station IIC and Badambadi Police Station IIC have been injured in the attack. As many as 25 persons from both the groups have been detained by the police, sources added.
