Bhubaneswar: As many as 22,000 Gana Sikshyaks on way to gherao CM Naveen Patnaik’ residence staged dharna after being blocked by police at Sishu Bhwan square here on Wednesday.

The teachers coming from different areas across the State, who have been agitating in State capital since December 22 demanding regularisation of jobs, took out a grand rally from Lower PMG square to Naveen Niwas in the morning.

Police prevented them to march forward while the rally reached Sishu Bhawan. "The strike will continue until the chief minister full fill our demand", an agitating teacher told OTV at dharna site.

"Government is playing with the career of thousands of students as their classes are being disrupted due to the strike", the protestor added.

The Gana Sikhyak Mahasangh president said -"the ministerial sub-committee has already forwarded its recommendations to CM for approval. But the chief minister is yet to come out with a concrete result. We are completely in the dark about the decision taken at the ministerial sub-committee our job. We only demand that the jobs of those who have completed six years in service should be regularised".

He (Naveen) should convince how hundreds of teachers including women spent spine chilling winter nights under open sky with their small babies. The government has been giving only false assurances till date. This is high time to fulfil our demands and allow us to resume classes, he pointed out.

The association on Tuesday had a meeting with school and Mass education minister, who said that he sent the recommendations to chief minister.

Sources said a high level inter ministerial committee has recommended similar service rules for the gana sikhyaks at par with regular teachers.

Meanwhile, School and Mass Education minister said the government is planning for rexation of resolution made in 2013.

“As per the RTE Act, they should be trained in order to become eligible for regularization. The government had made a Resolution in 2013 and as per the resolution they will be regularized. Inter-ministerial committee is also considering to relax the norms of the resolution for regularisation of jobs”, Devi Prasad Mishra, School and Mass Education minister, said.

“It is unfortunate that teachers are staging protest even as the government is taking steps to resolve their issues. The Naveen Patnaik led-government has done so much for the teachers”, the minister rued.
